In this blog, we will be getting into why you need to have a proper team communication, and understanding of your own game style to select a proper agent.
If you are new to Valorant or have been thinking about getting into the game more, then you might want to know all about it. One of the most common questions that any beginner usually has is if the Agent Selection part is that important, or does it impact the game as much as people claim it to be? Well, in today’s blog, we will be getting into how agent selection in the game does impact your game style in Valorant, and why you need to be careful about what agent you are choosing.
What are Agents in Valorant?
For those who do not exactly know the role of the agents in the game, let us explain it properly. Valorant is a game where you are either trying to attack a site or trying to defend it. As in every battle or fight, different people need to carry out different roles, and that is exactly what an agent does. An agent belongs to a certain category and has those abilities which will be aligned with the category. They are supposed to play according to their roles, and through this, they are to achieve their goal of either attacking or defending the site. For now, there are a total of 19 agents in the game.

What are the different categories and roles?
For those who want to know more about all the categories and the roles that are present in the game, let us get into it without wasting any time:
The first category has to be the Duelists, which you might be the most curious about. Duelists are the most aggressive players among all the categories. All their abilities are based on helping them push into a site and become aggressive. They have to help the team to get out of sticky positions, get into a site, and push against the enemy so that the team can get to the site as soon as possible. There are 6 duelists in the game so far, namely: Jett, Reyna, Raze, Phoenix, Neon, and Yoru. All their abilities are made in a manner that will help them easily get among the enemies and help them to eliminate as many as possible. One of the most important things that you need to keep in mind when you are playing a duelist is that you need to have a good game sense and also impeccable aim. If you miss, then your team is going to miss a bad footing in that round.

Now they are one of those categories, whose main aim is to give the team an entry to the site, o prevent the opponents from getting into a site, for as long as possible. All their abilities are based on the fact that they can gather as much information before helping their teammates. If you pick an Initiator, you need to have a good understanding of the map and also know tons of lineups. This will help you to even play from behind, before having to push extremely aggressively. As an Initiator, they are usually considered to go with the Duelists as their partners to take on fights. With both their abilities combined, it becomes extremely easier to get a good grip on the opponents. For now, there are 5 initiator agents in the game, namely: Sova, Skye, Breach, Kay/O, and Fade.

The next category in the game is the Controller. As the name suggests, you might have already guessed it. Controllers are there to control the whole situation. Basically, they are to make sure that once we get into a site, the opponents do not get an easy retake. When playing on the attacking side, they make sure that they choke the opponents if they are in the site, and force them to come out into the open. If you are going to play as a controller, you need to have the most impeccable sense of all the maps. You need to know which areas to smoke, which areas the enemies might want to hide in, and everything. While the Duelists and Initiators get inside the site, it would be your duty to ensure that they do not get killed by campers at the site. It is all up to you to have proper control over the whole situation. The Controller agents in the game are 4, namely: Viper, Brimstone, Omen, and Astra.

Lastly comes the Sentinels, which are basically the support system of the whole team. All their abilities are made in a way where they have to play from behind the team and try to pick out if the enemies are going to come from the flank or backstab. They are also to support their team members in case they need help. Hence, the Sentinel needs to give a good backup to the team, and even if you want to push forward and play aggressively, you will find that your abilities are not supportive enough to do so. Hence, as a Sentinel you need to have a good presence of mind to understand when you have to hold a site and when you can go ahead with others to fight off the opponents. Also, it is usually on the Sentinels to prevent the opponents from planting or defusing the spike, in case the duelists or initiators are down. For now, there are 4 Sentinels in the game, namely: Chamber, Sage, Killjoy, and Cypher.

What Should You Go For?
Now, the last question you might have is which agent you should go for, or rather, which category you should play in. Well, this is something that you need to find out for yourself. You will have to analyse your own game play and come to a conclusion. One of the best ways to go about it is to try out all the categories or the agents that you want to. If you feel comfortable with an agent or a category, start to practice that more. However, it is always recommended that you know how to play agents from all the categories. Hence, when you feel that you have pretty much mastered an agent or a category, make sure to go for another, so that you can be all the more versatile in the game.
