It has shaped our love for gaming in ways that whenever a new FPS game comes out, our mind automatically compares it to COD. The entire franchise has evolved throughout the years and had its ups and downs. They have released plenty of COD games based on different eras while being very experimentative with their campaign storyline which has backfired plenty of times.

There are some Call of Duty games that remain a fan favourite while there are others that avid players are very willing to disown in a breath. COD Games are just about the campaign alone, the multiplayer plays a big role given it defines how the COD esports scene would set up in the respective year. COD was often criticized for experimenting too much with the game and to address said criticism, COD has moved away from that model and built games on familiar storylines that the developers think will bode well with the players.

5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare(2019)
Modern Warfare 2019 was the saving grace for the Call of Duty franchise. For years, COD tried to move to a futuristic version of the game and failed upon which COD WW2 was released but did not do well. With the release of MW 2019, the game brought back everything that made the franchise legendary and paired it with stunning graphics, missions, mechanics and a solid campaign. Overall, the game was a package of everything that fans loved about the game and it managed to overthrow some of the favourites to make it to the top 5. Although there can be a difference of opinion about whether or not a better COD game deserves this spot, but we truly believe that this game saved a dying franchise and deserves to be here.
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Black Ops was a different take on the storyline for the Call of Duty franchise and rightfully so it attests to the storyline that the developers like to experiment with the game. The game featured an interesting storyline and built off the success of its predecessor. The multiplayer was just as good, the variety and the depth showing in the missions got everyone excited and was on point with all the basics which made this a top-of-the-line game and the sales figures further speak to the same. Overall the game doesn't stand out in one particular area but does everything well which makes it hard to pick out a flaw.

Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most popular games of its time. It was released under heavy expectations following the release of a masterpiece in Modern Warfare 2007. The game's storyline captured the hearts of every COD fan and many consider this as the game that cemented COD's place as a legend amongst its rivals. Modern Warfare 2 was more action-packed than its predecessor but did not progress much in the graphics department compared to the Black Ops games but in other areas, the game does just enough to make it to the 3rd spot.

The storyline was the highlight of the game and started the Black Ops franchise. While there were many ups and downs with the series, Black Ops has a special place in the hearts of all the fans. The game was able to define a storyline with a plot twist that got an entire generation to their feet. The game introduced zombies in the multiplayer which was an instant hit. Overall the game is highly appreciated by the fans and remains a favourite to this day.

Considered by everyone to be the greatest COD game of all time and for good reason. The game changed the way we think about video game campaigns and what made it so great was the variety of missions, weapons and dynamics of the game. It offered a complete package paired with top-notch graphics which made all other games from competitors look pale. All in all, COD 4 even after 15 years of its launch is regarded as the greatest COD game of all time.
