When it comes to the narrative in video games, a lot has changed. These huge virtual environments have given rise to intricate and deep tales. The finest characters, though, are found in the best tales. Players often recall the parts of a tale that impacted the characters they identified with the most. Of course, the main character is most affected by this. Instead of just seeing the protagonist on a screen, video games enable the user to put himself in their shoes genuinely. As a result, many gamers get emotionally attached to the hero.

Some of these heroes are just nice individuals who are difficult to dislike. Some of the finest adventures the medium has to give are those of others, who are just so well-developed. These are the greatest protagonists in video game history, regardless of why they are regarded highly.
Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2)
Many were unsure about Arthur Morgan and questioned if he could live up to John Marston when he was originally introduced in the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. After completing the game, Arthur proved to be one of the greatest heroes of all time, if not the greatest. Arthur is a stranger who is content with who he is. But he also has trouble with it.

Arthur, after all, has led a life of crime and caused many people harm. Instead of regretting the past or pleading for pardon, he makes an effort to act morally. Players had spent hours with Arthur and wanted him to find atonement. Arthur Morgan may never be replaced by a figure quite like him. Anyone who is trying to decide whether to play RDR2 should do it only to read Arthur's trip log as he explores early 20th-century America.
Joel (The Last Of Us)
Another Naughty Dog character named Joel is the polar opposite of Nathan Drake. A dark, tragic story of survival and loss, The Last of Us. Joel is a shadow of the man he once was twenty years after losing his daughter and a genuine zombie apocalypse.
He must have engaged in some dubious behaviour to have survived this long. But clear external factors influenced these behaviours. He doesn't begin to have anything to fight for until he takes care of Ellie. His father-daughter connection with Ellie makes the plot of Last Of Us so gripping.
In the end, Joel takes a course of action that is among the most ethically dubious in video game history. But it fits exactly with his prior decisions and all that fans already know about Joel. He was so selfishly attached to Ellie that he had to put his desires above the good of the remaining human species.
Kassandra (Assassin's Creed Odyssey)
One of the best-reviewed games in the series is Assassin's Creed Odyssey, according to Metacritic. One of the game's two potential protagonists, Kassandra, is a big part of its attraction. Her unassuming, no-nonsense approach strangely complements her lethal skills.
Since the first AC game with Desmond, helping her through the complex plot's numerous turns and turns has a unique quality. Despite the popularity of the most recent film, Valhalla, many fans still choose to see Kassandra.
Kratos (God Of War Series)
Kratos was never as complex in the first iteration as in God of War (2018). He was characterised as merely a macho, brutal warrior seeking retribution. The narrative veered off course as he proceeded on one god-killing rampage after another, even though he did it all in honour of his slain wife and kid.
Fans, however, got to experience another side of the ghost of Sparta thanks to the recent reboot/sequel. Kratos is a guy whose violent past torments him. Being a parent (again?), he sets out to prevent Atreus from evolving into the same character as Kratos. It provides a good contrast to Kratos' connection with Zeus, his biological father.
John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)
John Marston is one of many fantastic individuals who can't seem to get away from his past. The federal government forces John, a former Van Der Linde gang member, to find the other members. He won't ever get to see his family again if he doesn't. This character caught between a rock and voice actor Rob Wiethoff gives a hard place and a tremendous degree of subtlety.
He is committed to completing the task and returning home to his family despite his troubles. Red Dead Redemption 2, the predecessor, goes into more detail on John's motives. He desired to lead a comfortable rancher's life with his family. But as the games make clear, once a criminal, always a criminal.
Nathan Drake (Uncharted Series)
The modern-day Indiana Jones of the Uncharted games is Nathan Drake, only funnier. These grand global expeditions are made available to players in pursuit of antiquated treasures. Nathan, the main character, supports the series' sense of adventure. Like Han Solo, Nathan imagines himself as the cool man saving the day. But while being clever and competent, he also makes some mistakes.
It's enjoyable to manage him because of his clever banter and laid-back attitude toward these absurd circumstances. When players reach Uncharted 4, they meet a more experienced and self-aware Nathan. Even though he cannot escape the treasure hunter's life, he realised that he must mature.
Ezio Auditore (Assassin’s Creed Series)
The standard was greatly raised by Assassin's Creed 2 for the future franchise. Ezio Auditore, the story's major historical figure, is largely responsible for that. Since Altair was rather wooden and uninteresting, Ezio's sophisticated and engaging demeanour was a welcome complement.
Ezio was a guy who was solely interested in conflict and seeking women. He doesn't understand his ultimate destiny until his family is killed. Ezio develops into the Brotherhood's required saviour throughout AC 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations. The players admire his will to succeed in overcoming every challenge. His voyage demonstrates how far he has come from being initially presented as a young, innocent teenager.
Max Payne (Max Payne Series)
Max Payne is a wounded man who only seeks revenge for his family's death. However, Max is still a total disaster even after getting his vengeance. Max Payne's ruthless honesty about himself and others is what gamers like about him. Max doesn't have to deceive himself and, therefore, the player.
Players are compelled to turn away as he sinks further into melancholy. They must never lose faith that anything will jolt them out of it. He is a complete badass with that bullet-time mechanic, which also helps. Despite his comical appearance in the game's last act, Max Payne 3 is unquestionably the greatest rendition of his persona.
Trevor Philips (Grand Theft Auto 5)
Because Trevor is such a jerk, he may be the finest protagonist in the Grand Theft Auto series. He brilliantly embodies the humorous tone of Los Santos, the fictitious metropolis featured in Grand Theft Auto 5. The characters in GTA sometimes contradict the player's behaviour, which is one thing Rockstar has come under fire for.
As a result, Trevor is the ideal kind of character for this particular game. It seems as if Trevor may be right there with the gamers when they act foolishly and create trouble online. He is intelligent and ambitious but also utterly disorganised and careless with repercussions. He is a product of Los Santos and completely understands the world around him.
B.J. Blazkowicz (Wolfenstein Series)
There has been B.J. Blazkowicz for a very long time. But after The New Order, the show truly started to delve into his character. It is revealed his challenging background in those Bethesda games. It comes out that the guy's father was a violent and prejudiced man who made life for his family a living nightmare.
Thankfully, B.J. differs much from his father. He is a noble guy who is prepared to struggle against all difficulties to break the Nazi regime's hold on the whole planet. Blazkowicz is a huge issue for the Nazi government since he is a one-man army. He is not only an excellent fighter, but he can also endure hardships that most others cannot.
