If you are trying to get into the world of Overwatch and also have a good idea of all the Overwatch tournaments and championships that usually go on. In today’s blog, we will be getting into some of the best and most popular Overwatch tournaments that have marked history in the Esports world of Overwatch. These are some of the recent tournaments, and also the old tournaments that are quite fondly remembered in the community. As a result, if you want to strike up a conversation with another Overwatch fan, you can use this information to your advantage.

List of the Best Overwatch Tournaments

Without wasting much time, let us get into some of the best Overwatch tournaments:

Overwatch League - Inaugural Season: Stage 1

This could be considered the very first and quite a hyped-up tournament in Overwatch Esports history. One of the main reasons why this tournament is considered so important is that it was the inaugural season of the whole Overwatch League. There were a total of 4 Stages, and then Play Offs. As a result, it's easy to see why Stage 1 and the Inaugural Season were so anticipated and watched by Overwatch fans. Even though it is not that the League’s fame has died in any way around the community, people are more excited about the Play-Offs than the Stages anytime. Yet, being a first-timer, each of the Stages was watched intricately by the Overwatch fans.

The winner of Stage 1 was London Spitfire, and the runner-up was New York Excelsior. However, throughout the whole League, both of these teams were seen predominantly getting their wins. The whole League was finally won by the London Spitfire. The average number of viewers for Stage 1 itself was 140 627, and the maximum number of viewers was recorded in the Finals of Stage 1 at 437 006, which is quite an impressive number for a Stage League match, and not even the main event!

Overwatch League 2018 Playoffs

Well, if Stage 1 was on the list, then of course we would have to add the main event too! The Overwatch League 2018 Playoffs were quite an event to be remembered, for it was the first time Overwatch had its own official League with players all over the world! There were a total of 6 teams, and yet fans were more than excited to see who would be winning the trophy in the end. The Play-Offs are considered the Quater Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finals. The Grand Finals were held as a massive offline event, where people could watch their favourite teams play on the spot.

As previously stated, the London Spitfire won the playoffs, with the Philadelphia Fusion finishing second. The winner got a cash prize of $1,000,000, which is quite a huge amount to start with when the League is starting for the very first time! The average number of viewers was recorded at 136 349, and the highest number of viewers was recorded to be on the last day of the Grand Finals at 349 592.

Overwatch World Cup 2017

The Overwatch World Cup was also one of the most popular events in the Overwatch tournament's history. However, the 2017 Overwatch World Cup was also one of the most-watched tournaments in the game’s community for the reason that Overwatch was at its peak during that time. In recent times, we have to admit that the hype has died down significantly, but that does not mean that no one watches Overwatch anymore. It still has a good number of followers, but perhaps not how it used to be.

The average number of viewers that were found for the Overwatch World Cup 2017 was 213 603, and the maximum number of viewers was recorded at 321 960, on the day of the Grand Finals. The winner of the 2017 World Cup was South Korea, who still manage to keep up their position now and then. They had won a cash prize of $9,000. The runner-ups were Canada, Sweden, and France.

Overwatch League 2019 Playoffs

After the 2018 Playoffs, the 2019 Overwatch Playoffs also attracted quite a huge crowd. Though there had not been that much hype regarding the Stage Seasons for the 2019 Playoffs, that did not mean that the audience was unenthusiastic about them. There were a significant number of views for the stages as well, but not enough to surpass the 2018 Stages. That is also one of the reasons why 2018’s Inaugural Season is truly considered to be the peak Overwatch Esports community’s fan moment. Anyway, the 2019 Playoffs also had a similar structure of having Quater Finals, Semi-Finals, and then the Grand Finals.

The total average number of viewers calculated for the whole of the Playoffs was 113 751, and the highest number of viewers was recorded on the last day of the Grand Finals at 318 019. Hence, you can see that there was quite a crowd for the 2019 Playoffs too. The winner of the League was the San Francisco Shock, who also won a cash prize of $1,100,000. The runner-ups were  Vancouver Titans, New York Excelsior, and  Hangzhou Spark.

Overwatch League 2020 Playoffs Grand Finals

At this point, it is quite safe to say that the League has gotten to be far more popular and watched than the Overwatch World Cup. However, Overwatch 2020, unfortunately, had to be held online as the world had then been hit by the Pandemic. Many of the fans had expected that they would be able to watch the Grand Finals of the League Playoffs, but they could not.
