Animal Crossing: New Horizon's collaborations with Puma and Monopoly
Animal Crossing has a history of working with other companies. In all honesty, it's a fantastic marketing tactic that benefits other brands more than it does Animal Crossing. One of the most popular games right now, if not the most, is New Horizons. It has grown tremendously over the years and will do so as long as Nintendo keeps up with it. Even though it doesn't require any assistance, the collaborations are fun. We'll be talking about all such collaborations in today's blog.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The fifth main installment in the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a 2020 social simulation game created and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. In New Horizons, the player takes control of a character who moves to a remote island after buying a vacation package from Tom Nook. The character completes tasks and makes decisions for the island's development. They can gather resources, make things by hand, decorate the island, and turn it into a settlement of anthropomorphic animals.
New Horizons began its development in 2012. The game was announced at E3 2019 via Nintendo Direct and after an extended development period, released worldwide on March 20, 2020.
Animal Crossing Collaborations
- Animal Crossing X Super Mario
The Super Mario crossover is the best collaboration Animal Crossing has done so far. Even though they are both Nintendo brands, the crossover still exists because there are two distinct, hugely successful properties involved. Players questioned whether there would be other crossovers with Nintendo franchises in the future after the crossover, which was a big success.
Essentially, these collaboration items can be used to create your own playable Super Mario Bros. levels in New Horizons — with interactive elements like question blocks, flags, and warp pipes. Place two, and you’ll be able to use the warp pipes to travel between them. Naturally, there are also plenty of Super Mario Bros. outfits, and yes, there’s Wario. Other items include mushrooms, collectible coins, stars, Whomp blocks, and bricks, plus different rugs and murals to put in your home.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Super Mario-themed items in the Animal Crossing franchise — it’s been a tradition since the original Animal Crossing. Items from Super Mario Bros. have appeared in all games since then, including the mobile title Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
- Animal Crossing X PUMA
A new collaboration between Puma and Animal crossing was being teased for a long time on Nintendo's Twitter handle. The new shoe is a new rendition of the PUMA Wild Riders and comes in the iconic pastel Animal Crossing colorway. Mainly dressed in green, blue, and peach accents, the side panel features an almost-translucent graphic of the ever-popular Animal Crossing characters. The heel also sees an embroidered leaf logo on the heel. The peach accents are further emphasized by the suede detailing seen bordering the eyelets and the gum sole.
In addition to the sneakers, a hoodie was also launched alongside the shoe. Coming in a pastel blue featuring black line art of Animal Crossing villagers on the back alongside the PUMA logo.
- Animal Crossing X Monopoly
To create themed Monopoly games, Monopoly frequently collaborates with other brands. Not even counting all the other games with different ways to play, there are several variations of the classic Monopoly game. There are Monopoly games for Animal Crossing too.
One of the more adorable parts of the new game is the board pieces. Instead of the top hat, thimble, and more, Animal Crossing Monopoly players will be using characters based on the ones that can be customized in the Nintendo Switch game. This game comes with four of them and they all look different.

- Animal Crossing X Build-A-Bear
Nintendo has a license for the Build-A-Bear game series Animal Crossing. It was hinted back then on May 21 and 22, 2020, and then it was announced on March 10, 2021. The first and second Nintendo Build-A-Bear Collections to be showcased at Build-A-Bear Workshop were Pokémon and Super Mario, respectively. Plushies of three iconic characters, Isabelle, Tom Nook, and K.K. Slider are now available for your cuddling needs!
Build-A-Bear partnered with Animal Crossing to bring some fan favorites to the store. K.K. Slider, Tom Nook, and Isabelle have all been immortalized with stuffed animal versions of themselves.

- Animal Crossing X UNIQLO
Uniqlo put together a number of custom designs for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, making in-game versions of the real designs that players can download.
The retail half of this collection features six T-Shirts for men, seven for women, and five for children. It also has three baby shirts, three bags, and three towels. The adult-sized shirts are available for $20 USD both online and in Uniqlo stores. The online shop is limiting orders to one piece per pattern per customer, so you can only order one of each design.
Uniqlo has done multiple video game collections in the past, including one for the Mario 35th anniversary and a collection inspired by Pokemon Go.
That's all about some of these interesting collaborations between Animal Crossing: New Horizons and different companies, Brands, Production houses, etc. We hope this blog gave you an insight into Animal Crossing's marketing strategies using collaborations.
