Newsroom Sep 15, 2022

With Ubisoft, Netflix is also developing a new Assassin's Creed mobile game to complement the ongoing live-action television series.

Overview:

  • Ubisoft is partnering with Netflix to release three exclusive mobile games on the company's subscription service.
  • The two companies announced the partnership during last Saturday's Ubisoft Forward event.
  • Assassin's Creed game might be linked to the live-action Assassin's Creed TV show that Netflix is already developing.

In collaboration with Netflix, Ubisoft will make three unique mobile games available via the company's subscription service. The three games will be unique creations based on Ubisoft brands already in existence and will be accessible to users anywhere without using in-game adverts or microtransactions.

During last Saturday's Ubisoft Forward event, where the Assassin's Creed publisher showcased a variety of new games that would typically premiere during the E3 marketing season, the two firms made the alliance announcement. Valiant Hearts: The Great War II, a roguelike adaptation of Ubisoft's The Mighty Quest series, and an original Assassin's Creed game designed for mobile devices are the three titles that will be coming to Netflix.

The live-action Assassin's Creed TV series that Netflix is currently creating may be connected to that Assassin's Creed game. Even while there was no explicit mention of a relationship during the ceremony, a Netflix article announcing the cooperation strongly implies that the two projects are related.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell are also being animated, Netflix confirmed this year. Interesting to note that neither series will get a game in the initial round of Ubisoft's titles for Netflix. Due to today's announcement, Ubisoft is now the most significant game developer to have declared ambitions to distribute games on Netflix's subscription service. Both businesses have excellent reasons for working together in this way.

Netflix has been acquiring studios in droves to increase the production of its video games, but having a seasoned publisher like Ubisoft on hand who is also interested in adapting its other brands opens up new growth prospects for the streaming service. More well-known game brands can also encourage more gamers to play their games. Only 1% of Netflix members are said to have downloaded any movies.

Ubisoft's management seems to know that to keep expanding and turning a profit; the firm must test different business strategies. In an off-site meeting with business leaders, CEO Yves Guillemot emphasised the need for evolution and adaptability in light of the firm's altering economic problems, according to a story in The Washington Post on Saturday. Guillemot allegedly warned the assembled corporate officials that this would be a challenging and merciless journey either to keep up the pace of change or it's gone.

Uncertainty remained over whether the discussion addressed developers' ongoing worries regarding the company's alleged culture of sexual harassment and abuse among its studios. Members of the employee advocacy organisation A Better Ubisoft said last week that the business has still not entirely made up for its complex history.
