The new Mortal Combat mobile game is set to drop in 2023 and will have visuals similar to Mortal Combat for PCs and Consoles.
Warner Brothers have announced the launch of Mortal Kombat: OnSlaught for 2023 making it their second venture in the mobile gaming space after Mortal Kombat: Mobile.
The highly coveted fighting game is loved by its legion of followers and having it on the smaller screen makes a great option to game on the go. The game is co-published and developed by NetherRealm Studios who are previously experienced in Mortal Combat games along with the Injustice franchise which holds a similar fighting style.
The game is presumed to boast similar visuals and cinematics to the console version of the game, making this a very interesting prospect for mobile gamers. It will port over all the characters from the Mortal Combat game into the mobile version in an attempt to bridge the gap between mobile and consoles.
The last mobile game has over 150 million installs across App Store and Play Store, making it one of the best fighting games that are out there for mobile phones. However, unlike the previous iterations, the game will be an RPG. Thus allowing gamers to explore the Mortal Combat Universe further which wasn’t possible on mobile phones until this point.
Mortal Kombat is a legendary franchise and pop culture phenomenon, and it continues to engage players and advance the fighting genre across multiple platforms,” said David Haddad, President, of Warner Bros. Games. “Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a testament to why Mortal Kombat has been a top gaming franchise for over 30 years, as the NetherRealm team continues to innovate and bring new gameplay to fans.”
The game will likely have a pre-registration setup for early access where players can sign up now at onslaught.mortalkombat.com and be one of the first to hear more about Mortal Kombat: Onslaught.
“We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature,” said Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios. “With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.”
The game still holds the label as the most popular fighting game on the planet and rightfully so, it has all the tools and dynamics that aid in the same. It boasts a large player base who remain loyal to the game and the number of installs speaks for itself.
Launching an RPG while retaining the best elements of the game will give it an edge above a lot of the other games and when it launches, there is a good chance that we might see it overtake the likes of Genshin Impact let alone any other fighting or RPG game.
