Representatives of the video game industry encouraged the government in the letter to distinguish between "real money games" and casual "online games." According to many reports, the letter is signed by more than 40 employees from companies like Gametion, SuperGaming, Loco, Rooter, and more. In addition to calling for a distinction between leisure and competitive gaming, the corporation noted several other issues.

The concept of online games was not made explicit in the press release when the GOI (Government of India) granted MeitY the authority to regulate them. Therefore, GOI combined casual games such as Candy Crush, Ludo King, and others with fantasy sports applications, Teen Patti, and other online gambling activities. As a result, gaming businesses in India are now looking for clarification on what constitutes an online game. Representatives expressed concerns about applying KYC standards and child safety in addition to the explanation.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology for the Union Government, commented on online games when he said that Shillong would have India's first Center of Excellence in online gaming by March 2023. Esports is a priority for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports within the Central Government. The Central Government designated the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as the nodal ministry for Esports. It was given responsibility for online video games by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It means that the Department of Sports would govern Esports under the YAS Ministry and that the Indian government has officially recognized them as multi-sport events.
