IEM Rio CSGO Major Day 3: Recap
Cloud9 and Vitality survive and are in the need of another win to qualify.
We are headed into the final day of the IEM Rio CSGO Major’s Challenger’s stage following the conclusion of Day 3. Best of three matches across the board and the results will not surprise anyone.
An action-packed day 3 saw home favourite Furia book themselves a playoff spot along with the likes of BIG and Outsiders, said teams would join Mouz and Bad News Eagles who qualified after Day 2 action unfolded and with another day left, three teams will add to this list.
None of the 6 matches produced upset as the team's favourite to go through was able to either stay alive or make it to the next stage. Gamer Legion, having performed well in this tournament fell at the face of home favourites FURIA. 16-9 and 16-11 on Vertigo and Inferno respectively saw the Brazilians go through to the next stage.
Cloud9 was the heavy favourite to go through against EG and the results attest to the assumptions. The Russians were able to steamroll the American side who bombed out of the tournament at a very early stage.
The most exciting match of the day was undeniably between Fnatic and Outsiders. Before the match, it was difficult to predict the result but the latter was able to push it over the edge in the second map after a rather one-sided first map.
IHC, Evil Geniuses and Grayhound were the teams who failed to make it to the next stage and joined Imperial and 00NATION who made an early exit on Day 2.
6 teams have just a day left to decide their fate and unfortunately Vitality and Cloud9, two big-time favourites to win the major are still in need of a win if they want to see themselves in the playoffs.
Some of the stronger sides in the tournament are still in contention which has left a big room for major upsets. Following the reveal of the Day 4 fixtures, Fnatic, Vitality and Cloud9 have emerged as favourites to go through but their opponents in 9Z, OG and Gamer Legion have the potential for a surprise.
All the matches will be live-streamed on ESL TV’s Twitch channel with the first match starting at 19:30 IST and the last match of the day at 2:30 IST.
