How to be a better Inititator in Valorant?

Strategy Aug 8, 2022

In this blog, we will be getting through a guide to become a better initiator in Valorant.

This is another category of agents that you will definitely want to play if you are extremely sure of your game sense and aim in the game. There are different categories of agents in the game, and if one does not follow their part or not use their abilities, then it is not going to be a good game for the rest of the team. Hence, it is quite important to know what you have to do as a specific agent or what your roles are. Therefore, in today’s blog, we will be helping you thoroughly on how to be a better initiator!

What are Initiator Agents?

Before we get into anything else, let us understand the concept of Initiator agents. As the name suggests, these agents are supposed to give the teammates an opening to enter a specific site or a place. They are to push in and go first. Hence, their main objective is to empty out a site or at least the corners where the enemies might be hiding, and then give way to the duelists to enter the site. Hence, the initiator agents have to get control first.

Which Initiator Agents should I go for?

Another question that you might have would be who the Initiator agents are and which ones you should go for. Hence, here is a list of all the Initiator agents in Valorant right now:

Credits to Mobalytics. Sova was the first Initiator agent in Valorant.

One of the very first Initiator agents to be released in Valorant. This Russian archer is sure to find out where all the enemies are hiding at the site. His abilities include Recon through which he can scan an area or a site event to find out where the enemies are. He can also try to find out the enemies from corners through his drone, and lastly, he has a Shock Dart which can even kill enemies if they are brave enough to keep camping at the site. You will have to have a good aim if you want to be a Sova pro in the game.

Credits to Skye is a healer and a fighter.

Personally, I have always felt that Skye is an extremely underrated initiator in the game. People usually avoid taking her because she is a bit difficult to learn, and you need to be quite aggressive to play Skye. She also has a wolf, which can navigate the site for you, and will also harm the enemies who are in your way. She can also blind the enemies with birds. Another reason why Skye is quite a powerful agent if learned properly is that she can provide healing to others in the team if they are in a specific range. That means, unlike Sage, she can heal multiple people at the same time. Therefore, if you want to be more than an initiator, and also want to keep pushing your enemies, you can definitely go for Skye.

Credits to Mobalytics. Breach is the most aggressive Initiator agent.

If you have ever been up against a Breach in any match, you might have always been either annoyed or extremely angry at the Breach. However, it is not that easy to play Breach. However, once you actually get to play the agent, you will understand why Breach mains have so much fun. Breach has the ability to flash and enter the site. Not only this, most of these abilities can go through a wall, and hence you need not even peek in. You can just send a shockwave or flash and enter the site. However, the only disadvantage is that your teammates are also affected by your shocks and tremors. Hence, you will have to be very careful about the whole situation before you get to use your abilities.

Credits to Kay/O is the only robot agent in Valorant.

This is another agent that is quite powerful if you know how to use it properly. One of the most interesting abilities of this robot agent is that it can suppress the enemies’ abilities for a few seconds, and that becomes the prime key when the teammates can easily enter the site. Hence, Kay/O is usually selected as an initiator after Sova, for he will not only suppress the enemies but can also get information regarding how many of the enemies are inside the site. He can also use flash to enter the site and even has a grenade which will force the enemy to come out of their camping spots or to die in them. One can use Kay/O to play quite aggressively, and hence, that is one of the reasons why people go for the agent so much.

Credits to DiamondLobby. Fade is the newest addition to the team.

She is the new addition to the team, and fans have absolutely lost it over her! All her abilities seem to be a mixture of all the other initiator agents’ best abilities, and honestly, we are not complaining at all! Her abilities include Haunt, which would help her and her teammates to actually know where the enemies are at that point in time. Then there is Seize, which when thrown at the ground, will not be allowed to run away from their position, will become deaf and near-sighted, and their health will also start to decay for the time being. Also, she has a Prowler, quite similar to Skye, and is also quite similar to the blind ability. Hence, Fade is the full initiator package agent right now. Though it seems to be quite fun to use, it is a bit difficult to play, and it will take quite some good practice to actually be better at it.

Things to keep in mind while playing as an Initiator

Here are a few things that you might want to keep in mind while playing as an initiator:

Strong Lineups

Credits to It is important to know lineups in the game.

This is one of the most important things that you have to keep in mind before you actually become a good initiator. Lineups are important, as you will want to save yourself from getting killed right at the very beginning of the game while entering. Hence, if you know lineups, then you will have a safer way to understand where the enemies are and everything. It will also save you time. Once your team plants the spike, you need not even be on the site to protect the spike from getting defused. Hence, the first thing you need to do is to learn how to use strong lineups.

Collect information and inform your teammates.

Your prime task is to collect information and try to give that information to your teammates. Hence, you are to give support to the team, and also rely on all the maximum information that is possible.

Aggressive and Passive

Credits to Mobalytics. Breach's abilities will help you to play aggressively.

An initiator has to be both aggressive and passive. You are supposed to be quite aggressive when you are going to enter sites or even retake the sites whenever required. However, when you are defending, you have to be extremely passive about it. Because you will have to try to protect the site, and if you give up your positions, then you might face a difficult time.
