Furia and Heroic go through IEM Rio Quarterfinals recap
The quarterfinal round of the IEM Rio CSGO Major has concluded and as a result, we have our semi-finals on the cards.
IEM Rio has produced two beautiful action-packed weeks and a major for everyone to remember. Like everyone anticipated, we were greeted by a highly animated crowd in the arena and accusations of the crowd helping home teams were bound to surface. Putting all the controversies aside, we were greeted with some exciting matches on the last day of the quarter-finals.
Mouz and Heroic having qualified the other day set up the first exciting semi-final match starting at 22:30 IST followed by the second semi-final match later at 02:00 IST on 12th and 13th November.
The 3rd quarterfinals of the event were between teams who are identical in more ways than one. Two dark horses who are a threat to any and all teams took on each other. Starting off on Spirit's own pick Vertigo, Heroic had their number and quickly brushed them off as the Russians only managed 8 rounds before Heroic closed the game. Moving onto Overpass, Spirit were able to close the gap but Heroic kept their composure on both sides closing the map 16-14 in favour of the Danes.
The final match of the quarter-finals was the one with all eyes on it as FURIA took on the heavyweights Natus Vincere. Everyone anticipated a highly animated and hostile crowd, which it was. NAVI managed to silence it with a 16-14 victory on their own Nuke pick but Furia responded with a 16-10 victory on Ancient. Mirage was chosen as the settling ground but NAVI failed to find any footing which resulted in another 16-10 victory for Furia.
