Imagine a collaboration between one of your favorite games and the most iconic movie franchises of all time? That's what we'll be talking about in this blog, the collaboration between Fortnite and some of the most famous franchises. Let's examine every partnership that has so far been shown in the game, as well as those that are now taking place in Chapter 3 and potential future partnerships.
Why these collaborations?
An official crossover of outside media into Fortnite identifies a collaboration. Collaborations do not include allusions to external media or internal Epic Games productions (like the Infinity Blade). Collaborations typically take the shape of cosmetic items, however occasionally weapons, limited-time game modes, or even entire seasons are featured. These collabs help the brands to build a better relationship with other companies and give the audience an incentive, attracting them into these deals.
Fortnite's Collaborations with different companies
- Fortnite X Infinity Gauntlet (LTM) from Marvel Avengers: Infinity War
It was the first collaboration added to Fortnite. This collaboration started as a simple phone conversation between Epic and Marvel over a mutual appreciation for Fortnite and Avengers. In the words of Fortnite's team, "We worked closely over the following weeks to bring these two worlds together and landed on the Limited Time Mashup, Infinity Gauntlet. When we saw the movie last weekend, which was incredible, we were even more excited." Standard Battle Royale mode, but picking up the Mythic. Infinity Gauntlet transforms the player into Thanos, with special abilities and more health.
- NFL Cosmetic Items from National Football League
Soon, any professional football player will be able to fight for survival in Fortnite: Battle Royale. As part of a collaboration with the NFL, Epic Games is introducing NFL outfits to the game, including those for retired players. It’s pretty much the biggest crossover Fortnite has done since Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War joined the fray.
- Marshmello Bundle and Concert from Marshmello
With Marshmello, the first partnership to include a real person, there were a number of challenges, cosmetic items, and a live concert. Retroactively, Marshmello is the first Icon Series Outfit and the first partnership to host a standalone live performance. This time around, the artist, Marshmello plans to release official merchandise in collaboration with the game.
- Fortnite X NERF from NERF
The Fortnite train can't be stopped when it comes to collaborations. Another partnership has been formed with Epic Games, Fortnite, Hasbro, and NERF to produce actual NERF Fortnite Blasters. Fans can now purchase two unique NERF Fortnite Blasters from stores.
The Fortnite NERF Blasters' debut coincides with NERF's 50th birthday. NERF has continuously redefined, reinvented, and reignited the world of play since its initial release in 1969. The NERF brand is still hugely popular today, enthralling admirers of all ages with a variety of inventive products.
- Star-Lord and Black Widow from Marvel's Avengers Endgame
The Endgame Limited Time Mode was released at the same time as Star-Lord and Black Widow cosmetics. Despite being made available as a marketing tool for Endgame, they are inaccurate to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They also brought the Marvel Series, a brand-new cosmetic rarity.
- John Wick from John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
Sofia and John Wick both from the iconic John Wick movie franchise featuring Keanu Reaves are included in the game. Along with his home, a hotel in Neo Tilted, and the Wick's Bounty LTM, John Wick is added. The first costume to feature a real person's likeness is the John Wick suit (Excluding Marshmello). The Tactical Assault Rifle and Combat Shotgun are also part of the collaboration even though they were inspired by actual weapons from the film.
- It: Chapter Two from It Chapter Two
Who doesn't know about the major hit horror movie, 'IT'? Well, Fortnite collaborated with this movie franchise too but with little changes in the game. There were a few balloons strewn over the sewage drains on the map, maybe in association with the It Chapter Two movie. It would release an audio clip of laughter from the film series when popped.
- Star Wars X Fortnite from Star Wars
The Battle Royale game Fortnite hosted an event called Fortnite X Star Wars to advertise Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Coincident with Fortnite's Winterfest event, it started on December 14, 2019, and finished on January 7, 2020. On December 8 on Fortnite's Twitter and in-game, the crossover event was formally announced. On December 12, cosmetics for the Rise of Skywalker characters Finn, Rey, and a Sith warrior became available. Later that day, Donald Mustard made an announcement at The Game Awards 2019 that every participant would receive a TIE Whisper Glider for free while attending the event.
That's all about some of these interesting collaborations between Fortnite and different companies, movie franchises, shows, etc. We hope this blog gave you an insight into Fortnite's marketing strategies using collaborations.
