The Indian Esports Industry has fought to separate Esports from the broader category of "Gaming." The industry has claimed that Esports (Electronic sports) is a competitive sport where Esports players compete in certain video game genres in a virtual, electronic environment using their physical and mental prowess.

Lokesh Suji, Director of the Indian Esports Federation and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), responds by saying, "We have wonderful news to start the new year. We have worked tirelessly to distinguish between Esports and iGaming, and our efforts have finally succeeded. It won't be long until Esports are compared to cricket, football, basketball, and other sports and have a comparable fan base, size, and craze."

"People are putting aside the myths about Esports as a hobby or career choice in light of the most recent announcement and India's recent participation in the inaugural Esports Asian Games, where they competed for gold. Esports will have more prospects in 2023, and we expect more favourable developments only to make it grow. The year has undoubtedly been fantastic for Indian Esports, "Suji included.

"We applaud MeitY's selection as a nodal ministry for online gaming. The industry has long called for a single, central regulation for online skill games, and this move should pave the way for a progressive regulatory system supported by consumer welfare. This will foster the industry's expansion and establish online gaming as a pillar of Digital India, "The All India Gaming Federation's CEO, Roland Landers, said. "We also applaud the decision to have MYAS oversee Esports competitions at multisport events. This will result in better opportunities and facilities for our Esports players, putting them on par with other athletes, the official recognition of an India Esports Federation, and better rules and procedures for selecting India teams for international competitions like the Asian Games.

"The sports ministry's decision to include Esports in India's mainstream sports is positive. In India, the number of Esports participants doubled from 300,000 to 600,000 in 2021, and revenue increased by 29% from INR 7.5 billion to INR 9.7 billion. These figures demonstrate the medium's appeal and the enormous potential it carries with it to spur economic development and have a favorable effect on the demographic dividend of the nation. And we at JetSynthesys are overjoyed to hear this news as the founding partners of Nodwin Gaming, India's biggest Esports organization, "declares Rajan Navani, JetSynthesys' CEO and Founder. "We are certain that this recognition will strengthen Esports' general acceptance, increase the motivation of current players within the ecosystem, and open doors to greater and more advantageous prospects. Additionally, it will increase interest in the sport among viewers and draw in new businesses and players. Unquestionably a fantastic start to 2023; we appreciate the government's support and wish Esports further success in the years to come!

Which Games Come Under Esports In India?

The release of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds boosted Esports' acceptance in India (PUBG Mobile). As Esports gained popularity, many more games were added to the list. However, the sector incurred serious losses due to India's ban on PUBG Mobile. The emphasis subsequently turned to various other games, such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Valorant, Battlegrounds Mobile India, Garena Free Fire, Clash Royale, and FIFA.

What Will Be The Esports Scenario In India Now?

According to the Minister of State for IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will shortly develop the rules for all forms of online gambling. Therefore, it will be intriguing to watch what fresh developments the sector will undergo. There were almost no legal restrictions on the festivities.

But it would also benefit the gaming sector in India because more people will start playing games. This will also debunk the false notion that a career in gaming is unattainable.
