What is Esports Hall of Fame?

Community Aug 20, 2022

The Gaming Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to recognize individuals who have played a significant role in the gaming-entertainment industry.

Overview:

  • Potti is the best Counter-Strike 1.6 player of all time, a Swedish Esports icon.
  • Ohio's CANTON, an Esports center, will be the Hall of Fame Village.

With a wide cast of some of the finest Esports players hosting this year's community award, the Esports Hall of Fame is getting ready to welcome its newest members into the ring of honor. Fans may choose which finalist candidates should be inducted into the Hall of Fame to be recognized for their accomplishments and services to the Esports community.

Players from five different scenes are represented on the field this year, with two of the most obscure scenes seeing players on one of the powerful Esports platforms. Adam "Armada" Lindgren, Bruce Grannec, Tomy "Potti" Ingermarsson, Shane "Rapha" Hendrixson, and Dave "Walshy" Walsh are the five players competing for the prize.

Armada has won several championships at prestigious competitions like Evo, DreamHack, Summit, and Genesis, one of the best Super Smash Bros, Melee players. Armada was one of the gatekeepers for other Melee players for over ten years. He was the opponent that rivals had to defeat to get close to the finals of any significant competition.

One of the best Counter-Strike 1.6 players of all time, Potti is a Swedish Esports icon who also assisted in founding Ninjas in Pyjamas. He was a dominant force in the CS scene from 2000 to 2005, making him one of the first Esports celebrities. He participated in 15 Cyberathlete Professional League competitions, reaching 12 finals and never finishing worse than fourth. Even though CS entered a new age after his retirement in 2006, his highlight videos are still the stuff of folklore because of his reputation for clutching out victories under any circumstance.

Rapha, regarded as the best Quake player in the world, won the DreamHack Winter 2018 championship to solidify his place atop the list. Rapha has been a dominating player for over a decade and is now referred to as "The King of Quake." There are very few people who can contest Rapha's status as the greatest after he took the ultimate honor by winning QuakeCon five times in both the solo and team events.

These five athletes, regarded as among the best in their field, would blend well with League of Legends phenom Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, last year's victor. The apparent bias toward titles like Counter-Strike and Quake is the only criticism some fans have about the voting procedure. The class of 2019—Lim "BoxeR" Yo Hwan and Jang "Moon" Jae Ho—represents a different game, StarCraft, and now, five of the seven entrants fall into one of those categories.

Finally, Walshy won one-on-one and free-for-all Halo events in his early career, earning the nickname "Captain Clutch." Walshy advanced in the Halo professional scene and rose to prominence among team competitors, setting a record by winning nine MLG competitions between October 2004 and July 2005. Walshy had won 23 Majors by the time he retired and began commentating in 2012, including three World Championships in 2004, 2005, and 2007.
